Who says work and play don’t mix?

Hello dear readers.

Today I wanted to share a few thoughts about the world of Sports.

More specifically about – a career in Sports

Sporting careers have long been overlooked by students looking to combine work and play.

Please don’t get me wrong when I say play. A career in the sporting world is no less challenging or professional than a career in any other field.

The only difference is – you may love your job so much, it may never feel like work again.

Let’s break down the concept of a career in sports into three broad categories, namely;

  • Sports and fitness training
  • Sports Coaching
  • and finally – Sports Management

Choosing a career in sport is much like choosing anything else- It’s all about what works best for you.

Sports and fitness courses prepare students for a career of personal training, nutritional advice giving and one on one work with clients of all ages. Working mainly out of gyms (but also sometimes from private homes), the sports and fitness expert is a powerhouse all-rounder focusing on the health and well being of their clients.

Does that sound like your dream job?

If not, perhaps sports coaching is more in line with your character. As a coach you will work mainly with teams, however; individual attention is just as important as team understanding. The administrative duties of a coach make this an ideal career path for the multitasking professional. If a career outdoors, handling multiple areas and high responsibility is your thing – coaching may be the way to go.

Feel like you’re not quite up to the challenge of handling a team on your own?

Luckily a career in sports management may be more your cup of tea. Sports management is essentially a management field like any other. The only difference is, it incorporates your love of sports into your daily workload. Managing the sports team (or individual) means doing lots of marketing, keeping up with the trends in the sporting world, liaising with the finance managers …. the list goes on.

If being a high powered professional, while still keeping your focus on the thing you love most is your goal, sports management may offer you just what you have been looking for.
