Unlocking your Potential

“You have to believe in yourself and what you’re doing.

You have to see yourself doing it with your mind’s eye.

If you can’t imagine it, you probably can’t achieve it.”

~John Maxwell

So your dream has been planted in your heart and you have an incredible vision to look forward to. In addition, it is also now the time to set things in the right order to start working on your canvas.

It is the time to do some major life changing improvements for discovering the gifts and talents that are hidden inside of you. This is your season to bring them to life to complete your dream.

Dont-ask-yourself-what-the-world-needs-ask-yourself-what-makes-you-come-alive-Harold-Whitman

Bear in mind that they will not all come at once but you will unlock them as you walk your journey of completing your dream. Through each phase of this awesome journey you will learn to kindle and re-kindle the gems hidden inside of you.

Most importantly, there must be a desire to unlock them and to experience them. Desiring them will unlock them and you will fall in love with them. You must also be willing to embrace them for the season that you will use them. They will grow on you so that others can also be inspired by them.

Just open your heart and mind to a beautiful journey of discovery. Along the road it may seem strange and weird to you, but eventually, upon completion, it will all make sense. Every piece of your canvas will be fully painted with all the majestic treasures inside of you.

Believe me when I say that you will stand in awe at the end of the journey of completion. You will look back and be proud of your process of transformation. It is what is inside of you that will take you to the road less travelled.

Walking in the rain

Image

Two days ago, I woke up to the sound of raindrops against my window. The sun was shining the previous day, so the change in weather was unexpected. I commute to work with the train and immediately I began to think about being at work in wet clothes.

I arrived at work, dripping wet as expected. My colleague asked me why I did not run because if I had run, I would not have been wet. I did not reply. I could not at the time because my mind was all over the place.

The rain represented the storms in our lives and this was an unexpected storm. How many of these unexpected storms do we encounter? We have different ways of facing these storms. Some run from the storm, some walk through the storm and some run through the storm.

Those who run from the storm will not learn the lesson that they were supposed to take from the storm. Those who walk through the storm will become wet and eventually learn from the storm. The lesson from walking through the storm will enable them to face the next phase of life. Those who run through the storm will also become wet but will miss out on some element of the lesson along the way. Yes, they will go through to the next phase but not fully prepared for the next phase because they rushed through the storm.

I thought that whether I walked or ran, there would have been no difference, I still would have been wet, maybe not that much but wet is wet. I still had to walk through the rain to get to work.

Whatever unexpected storm is thrown on our way, we have a choice, either to run from it and learn nothing, run through it and miss out on a opportunity along the way, or walk through it and receive the full opportunity when arriving at our destination.

Sometimes it is necessary to take a walk in the rain and get wet in order to progress to the next phase of life.

Journalism

Journalism has been around for centuries; it has evolved from a town crier to the first newspapers in 1665 in London.

cloud-709100_1280daily-paper-464015_1280

Journalism in all its different forms of print had complete market domination. That is until the 1930’s when radios had complete coverage of the news. The next big opposition to ‘traditional journalism’ was Television news which started taking some attention from ‘traditional journalism’ in the 1950’s. Although journalism in print did evolve with the times by adding pictures throughout its lifetime and since 1980 have started printing in colour.

Now journalism has a new frontier mobile journalism. Several questions arise from this statement.

What is mobile journalism? What form of news reporting is working on this?

Those questions have quite simple answers. Mobile Journalism is when the news you find reported on television or in newspapers or magazines can be found online. This doesn’t mean people who have commented on it or small web links. This is when the company has built a website to show all the news that is in the daily newspaper; in other words 100% coverage and all of it online.

These online services are something you occasionally have to subscribe to. Yet, this normally works out cheaper than the normal newspaper price because you don’t pay for printing.  These online versions of newspaper have the ability to be more interactive with the average reader, and provide a complete new level of easy to access news. Even publishing giants see the benefit of this.

Media24 is the largest news company in the whole of South Africa. They publish over 60 magazines including the YOU and HUIS genoot. They also publish more than 100 newspapers this includes Die Burger and the Tyger burger.  They have also moved towards mobile journalism.  They have options were you can purchase magazines subscriptions online; and when you subscribe to this you can get a dozen digital magazines for under a hundred rand. The costs do fluctuate but works out much cheaper then buying them in print. They have also developed websites for their newspapers for example Die Burger, where you can read all the latest news.

All this change, it appears as if nothing is immune to the passage of time and the constant development of technology. Journalism had to evolve or it would slowly fade away.

Growing Up is Never Easy

We’ve all heard the saying “It’s time to grow up”.

What does this really mean?

As an adult you sometimes think back to being a child. The innocence, no stress, no bills and not care in the world. We think about how we as individuals have grown, what we have achieved so far in life and if we are happy with the person we have become.

Just recently, my life changed drastically when my 3 year relationship with my partner came to a sudden end. Most of us have been through a breakup and we all know that it’s not easy. We go through different phases, emotionally and mentally.

One thing the break up has taught me is that I need to refocus my priorities and think about what I really want in life.

Growing up was part of it.
No one ever said that being an adult would be this hard!

A few things to focus on:

-Throw yourself into your talents (Think about what makes you unique? What do you enjoy?)

-Start thinking about where you want to be in 5 years (professionally and personally)

-Set realistic goals for yourself

-Be honest with yourself (What would truly make you happy?)

-Learn to say no to certain things and get rid of anything negative in your life

-Learn to deal with setbacks in your life

– Take care of yourself (Try and live a healthy lifestyle)

-Form and maintain long lasting relationships

-Live responsibly

Ask yourself:

Remember:

Don’t be afraid of change, embrace it rather.

Sometimes you have to do what’s best for you and your life, not what’s best for everyone else.

Think about what you need to do, as an individual, to be successful.

I wish you all well!

Let the words flow

Everyone has their hobbies the things they do simply because they enjoy it.

hobbies

Many people play games or play sport but a particular hobby I always found interesting was writing. Oh sure it could be short stories novels article or even a blog!

The art of writing has always fascinated me, despite my lack of natural skill, and motivation.

I would like to give some tips for all those who love writing or perhaps would one day like to try it.

917da39f2bc86d594aaada3142e9321d

A lot of the time, new writers especially, people struggling with creativity or creating something new. A tip from bestselling writer Stephen King is to stop watching TV and read instead as that allows creativity to flow freely as well as opening up your mind to be inspired by others literary works.

images

However never steal from other writer’s it’s important to draw the line between inspiration and stealing. The TV is a threat but isn’t the only one.

Never allow there to be many distractions while you write. You know the type of person you are and you know what distracts you.

albert-einstein

If the internet is calling to you rather work on a computer that doesn’t have internet connection or access to games or other things that will be distractions.

Some people even find open windows distracting and have to close it up to stop themselves gazing outside. All of this is about getting into the perfect setting to write.

images (2)

Finding a perfect setting might be ideal but perfectionism is not. It is highly unlikely on your first try that you are going to write a bestseller so don’t be under constant pressure to make everything perfect. This can ruin the whole experience for you. Write for yourself and then worry about making it better, not perfect just better.

passion

Keep writing pieces as simple as possible. Don’t try using big words to impress your readers. It doesn’t make any form of writing better when the reader has to piece together what the author is saying. It also creates the impression of trying too hard which is not necessary. However never dumb down, assuming your readers are dumb just insults their intelligence.

MotoX-Creativity-Quotes-09

A good balance is necessary.

inspiring-quotes-about-life-relax-relaxtion1

Lastly have fun doing it. No-one is going to continue their hobby if they hate what they are doing. Have fun with your writing and don’t pressure yourself too much. Forcing yourself to be finished by a certain date has ruined many good books as the endings become sloppy and hastily wrapped up.

Lastly a final tip consider doing a writing course in our Creative School at College SA.

We offer distance learning so it can be done without leaving your permanent job or other engagements.

Find your inner creativity 🙂
