3 Ways to feel happier, guaranteed!

Hi there to you all,

Happiness is one of the best emotions that we can feel. There is no perfect definition of ‘happiness’, but we all know what happiness is when we do (or don’t) feel it.

Be happy

“Happiness is when what you THINK, what you SAY, and what you DO are in complete harmony” [As said by my hero, Gandhi].

One of my personal goals for this year is to spend more time being happy.

1) ONLY spend time with people who make you feel good, respected and loved.

Laugh with your friends

As much as possible, we should spend time with people who make us feel good about ourselves. People who want us to be happy and positive. Be in the company of people who make you smile, in fact, that make you laugh so much that your jaws start to hurt.

2) Find something that YOU enjoy doing, and do it!

Do something you enjoy

I’m willing to bet that most of us can think of things we would love to do IF we just had the time. It can be anything – walking your dog / painting / ice skating / swimming / eating ice cream ….

Spending even just 30 minutes a week doing something you enjoy is certainly going to help you to feel happier.

Don’t just talk about it – do it!

3) Be kind and helpful

I know it sounds a bit corny, but spending time helping others really does make us feel better.

Knowing that we have helped somebody (even in a really small way) makes us feel good.

Be kind today

You don’t have to be Mother Theresa to be helpful.

simple kindness

‘Help’ and ‘kindness’ can take many forms:

  • Volunteering at your local library;
  • Donating some food / resources to a charity of your choice;
  • Helping an elderly person carry their parcels;
  • Writing a letter to somebody you know is going through a tough time and telling them that you are there for them;
  • Giving somebody a hug and telling them how special they are.

So, those were my top 3 tips to feeling happier. I really hope that you try them out and that they work for you.

This generation will never know…

Now, this is a story all about how

my life got flipped-turned upside down,

and I’d like to take a minute, just sit right there,

 I’ll tell you how I became the prince of a town called Bel Air

– Fresh Prince of Bel Air

Does this take you back in time?

When I was younger, I would try to sing along to every word of my favourite TV series, The Fresh Prince of Bel Air. I would be completely bummed out if I jumbled up the lyrics. It got to the point where my brother and I would record the entire introduction, and we would rewind and play – just so that we could get it right!

Being a 90s kid, I remember rushing home from school and changing out of my school uniform so that I could gear up to go rollerblading with my friends. The boys would be doing something sporty outside for sure.

If we weren’t being adventurous outside, my friends and I would be watching Spice Girls music videos on a cassette player, trying to mimic every dance move.

Gone are the days where children would rush home when the school bell rang, so that they could slip into something more comfortable to go play outside with their friends. ‘Playing’ could entail riding a bicycle, playing hop-scotch, climbing a tree, or acting out an episode of Power Rangers.

Today’s generation will never understand the hype around trying to master Michael Jackson’s iconic moonwalk, and watching Pepper Ann, Doug and Recess religiously. They will probably never experience the thrill that you get from knocking on neighbours’ doors at night and running away… If you are a 90s kid, you should know exactly what I’m talking about!

Those were the best years of my life

Children of today don’t get to experience the fun activities that we did when we were younger. This makes me excited to have kids of my own, so that I can do things differently. My children and their friends will get to experience the joys of hopscotch, on-on, stuck in the mud, tok-tokkie, and hide-and-seek.

Dreams are forever” – Tinkerbell
