Boss’s Day – Do you HEART or HATE your boss?

“I love my job. I love the pay!

I love it more and more each day.
I love my boss, he is the best!

I love his boss and all the rest.”

Author unknown

October 16 is International Boss’s Day. This is still a relatively new celebratory day in South Africa but it is starting to gain momentum in the corporate world.

The first question I have to ask is – do you HEART or HATE your boss?

Hate your boss?

Is your boss somebody you want to honour this year?

Your boss

Or, would you rather make a voodoo doll out of your boss?

Voodoo

If you feel you need a NEW BOSS, then chances are high that you need a NEW JOB!

Finding a new job can be really tough. Statistically speaking, South Africa’s official unemployment rate is at 25.6%.* * (As published by the South African government http://www.statssa.gov.za/keyindicators/keyindicators.asp).

This means that at least a quarter of the country is unemployed! But, don’t despair – there are things that you can do to improve your chances of getting a job:

  • Get relevant job skills by volunteering or applying for an internship;
  • Network with everybody that you know and spread the word that you are looking for a job;
  • Do as much research as you can about the industry you want to go into and the kind of job that you would like;
  • Get the knowledge that you need in order to be qualified to do the job by registering for study courses.

College SA can help you get the knowledge that you need. Need to study something specific such as Technical Financial Accounting? College SA will have the course for you.  Need to study something more general such as Time Management?

College SA will be your educational partner that will support you every step of the way with your studies.

Start taking the necessary steps today to get a new boss and a new job. Don’t be stuck doing something that you hate for somebody that you hate. Imagine yourself jumping out of bed in the morning with excitement because you can’t wait to get to work. Imagine a better future for yourself. It can be done!

Don’t dream it … be it (quote from the Rocky Horror Picture Show).

Don't dream it, be it

ps: I love my job and my boss!

Time for a NEW you!

Hi there dear Readers, how are you all doing?

Today’s blog article is inspired by the beautiful Spring sunshine that has come to visit us. I hope I am not jinxing things, but it certainly seems as if Spring has arrived here in Cape Town.

Spring is the season of rebirth after the cold winter months. Spring is when people start smiling more.

Spring is all about new beginnings!

Today I would like to issue you all with a challenge – do something new!  Be bold, be brave, be fabulous!

1) Grow a little this Spring

Grow this spring

Spring is a wonderful time to start planting. Visit  your local nursery and choose plants that you love. You don’t have to be a gardening expert in order to experience the joy of seeing your plants and flowers grow. Get some colour in your life – plant flowers that are bright and beautiful. Don’t feel obliged to plant your flowers in neat rows all according to colour. Mix it up a bit. Don’t be afraid to be a little daring.

2) Say Howdee to a new hobby

It’s absolutely untrue that you can’t do anything creative or funky or artistic. You don’t have to be a genius at anything – just take up a new hobby. Do something you’ve always wanted to do. Don’t let anybody tell you that you can’t do it. So what if you can’t sing? Grab a hairbrush and sing as if you are serenading the world. Think you can’t paint? Grab some paint and literally splash it onto a canvas. Go a little crazy.

Take up a hobby

Have you always wanted to learn how to play a musical instrument? It doesn’t matter if you have less rhythm than a teaspoon. Stop thinking you can’t do it. Find a teacher that can turn you from zero to hero with a guitar.

Learn to play the guitar

If you are the shy type, don’t worry – there are plenty of hobbies that you can do in the privacy of your own home. Nobody has to ever see your wonderful creations. It doesn’t matter what you do, just do something!

3) Let’s get physical

Get your happy hormones pumping through your body with a bit of activity. Don’t worry, I’m not suggesting that you trek up Kilimanjaro. Just do something that gets you moving. Even if you are the world’s biggest slob, you can still do something that won’t kill you.

Dance with your soul

Let's get physical

Today I challenge you to do something new or different. Live out your dreams and fantasies. Have the confidence to try new things. Be as camp or as geeky as you want to be.

Click your heels together three times and say “Take me ……

Red Kansas Shoes

Until next time,

S

Accounting Courses with College SA

More than just numbers ….

Hello dear readers.

Today we are going to be posting about a widely misunderstood field.

We have all heard the clichés about different fields of work or study right?

If you’re a lawyer, you’re automatically a shark in discussions with friends and family..

A psychologist immediately becomes a quack at the average dinner party…

An Accountant……….?

Boring? Bookish? Dull? Anal-retentive?

We have all heard the names people use to belittle the field of accounting and the professionals who work within it.

The truth of the matter is – Accounting is just as much an art as it is a science.

The average day of the accounting professional can involve countless meetings, creating procedures for streamlining business function or travelling around the world while meeting and assisting clients.

A great deal of out-of-the box thinking is required in this diverse and fast paced field. No matter what the business in question specialises in – finance will be in the picture. This means, in essence, accountants have an extremely wide range of options to choose from when deciding where to work.

Since accounting is required world-wide in every business, job security is also a huge perk of working in the field.

Next time you hear someone describing an accountant as “dull”, take a second to teach the person exactly how creative the field really is.

If you are interested in the world of Accounting, simply click here and have a look at the Accounting Courses offered by College SA.
