Choosing to Take a Leap of Faith

Some of the best things that people have acquired in their lives have occurred because they have taken a leap of faith. Decision-making can be extremely difficult, and it is never easy to know which direction to take.

I personally find it very hard to make decisions. I am probably one of the most indecisive people out there. It takes me nearly half an hour to decide on something simple, such as which cold drink to buy, or what to order off a menu. Every time I make a decision, I try to contemplate the outcome, and I worry that I am making the wrong choice.

If making these small decisions is stressful for me, you can only imagine how I cope with bigger and more important decisions!

As you get older, there seems to be increasingly bigger and more important decisions to be made. I guess this is a part of growing up! Unlike deciding on which chocolate to buy, “grown up” decisions carry more responsibility, as there is more at stake.

I know that many people, like me, would rather avoid making decisions altogether, so as to avoid all the stress that accompanies it. Unfortunately, we can’t go through life with our heads buried in the sand. If you keep avoiding and ignoring a decision that needs to be made, the situation may just get worse, and you may even let a great opportunity slip through your fingers.

I have come to the realisation that although some levels of apprehension is healthy when making decisions, too much anxiety can become counter-productive.

Sometimes you just need to go with your gut feeling and take a leap of faith.

If you are in the process of deciding whether or not to study, be comforted by the thought that there are many people who are grappling with this same decision, weighing up the different options and outcomes, and considering every single “if” “but” and “maybe”.

The truth is that no matter how hard we try, we will never be able to predict our future. Although it is wise to make an informed decision, there is no point in stressing about all the “what ifs” in life.
